What Lengths am I willing to go to in order to do right by every child?
When we made the decision to be teachers we also made a promise to protect all of our students from anything that may come their way. In the article “Cultural Responsiveness Start with Real Caring” by Zaretta Hammond, an African American 5 th grade boy is curled up in a ball crying in the corner of the classroom and the teacher did nothing. Although the article didn’t include the back story on why the student was crying, us teachers should never leave our students alone to cry. As Zaretta shared, we should offer a moment of compassion or a gesture of care to our students. Some of the words that I took note off while reading through this weeks module to create my Word It Out included words like challenges, motivate, care, family, push and connection.
